English Diary Before Chinese New Year

Today is the day before Chinese New Year, and the excitement is in the air. The atmosphere is filled with anticipation and preparation. There is so much to do before the arrival of the new year.

In the morning, my family and I cleaned our house thoroughly. This is an important tradition to sweep away any bad luck from the previous year and make room for good luck in the coming year. We dusted every corner, wiped down the furniture, and swept the floors. The house is now sparkling clean, ready to welcome the new year.

After cleaning, we started decorating our home with red lanterns, couplets, and paper cuttings. Red is a symbol of good luck and happiness in Chinese culture, so it is common to see red decorations everywhere during the New Year. We hung lanterns outside the house and pasted red couplets on the door. The vibrant red color creates a festive and joyful atmosphere.

In the afternoon, my family went to the market to buy fresh ingredients for our New Year's Eve dinner. It is a tradition to have a big family reunion dinner on New Year's Eve, with an abundance of delicious dishes. We bought various vegetables, meat, and seafood, ensuring that we have a diverse and tasty menu for our celebration.

The evening was filled with preparation for the traditional dumpling making session. Making dumplings is a popular activity during Chinese New Year as it symbolizes unity and prosperity. The whole family gathered around the table, sharing stories and laughter while folding dumplings. It was a wonderful bonding experience.

As the day comes to an end, I can't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation for the approaching new year. The preparations we made today are just the beginning of the festive celebrations that will take place in the next few days. I am looking forward to the reunion with my extended family, the fireworks, and the exchange of red envelopes filled with blessings.

Overall, the day before Chinese New Year is a busy yet joyful time. It is a time of preparation, anticipation, and gathering with loved ones. I am grateful for the traditions and customs that bring us together and create a sense of warmth and joy during this special time of the year.
