Teaching Plan for Unit 6 of "Lingtong Kids English" Book 1

Introduction:

In Unit 6, students will learn about different types of animals and their characteristics. They will also practice using the present tense to describe animals. This lesson can be taught over several sessions depending on the students' progress and abilities.

Objectives:

- To introduce and practice vocabulary related to animals

- To teach and reinforce the use of present tense verbs in describing animals

- To develop students' listening, speaking, and writing skills in English

Materials:

- "Lingtong Kids English" Book 1

- Flashcards or pictures of different animals

- Whiteboard or blackboard

- Markers or chalk

Procedure:

1. Warm-up:

- Begin the lesson by reviewing vocabulary from previous units related to animals, such as "cat," "dog," "bird," etc.

- Play a game of "Simon says" using animal actions, such as "Simon says, clap like a seal" or "Simon says, hop like a kangaroo." This will engage students and activate their prior knowledge.

2. Introducing new vocabulary:

- Use flashcards or pictures of different animals to introduce new vocabulary words, such as "elephant," "lion," "giraffe," etc. Show the pictures and say the names of the animals, asking students to repeat after you.

- Play a game of "What's missing?" by showing a few animal flashcards and then removing one. Students have to guess which animal is missing.

3. Presenting and practicing the present tense:

- Write sentences on the board using the present tense to describe the animals, e.g., "The lion is roaring," "The elephant is stomping its feet," "The giraffe is eating leaves." Read the sentences aloud and have students repeat.

- Give students sentence strips with the names of different animals and sentence patterns. They should match the animals with the correct sentences.

- Have students work in pairs or groups to create their own sentences using the present tense and the animals they just learned. Circulate and provide assistance as needed.

4. Listening and speaking practice:

- Play an audio recording or read aloud a short dialogue about animals. Ask students comprehension questions to check their understanding.

- Divide the class into pairs or small groups and have them create and act out their own dialogues using the vocabulary and sentence patterns from the unit. Encourage creativity and fluency in their speaking.

5. Writing practice:

- Have students write a short paragraph or essay describing their favorite animal. They should use the present tense and include details about the animal's appearance, characteristics, and habitat. Encourage students to use vocabulary and sentence patterns from the unit.

- After students finish writing, they can share their paragraphs with the class, or with a partner for peer feedback.

Conclusion:

In this lesson, students learned vocabulary related to animals, practiced using the present tense to describe animals, and developed their listening, speaking, and writing skills in English. They engaged in games, dialogues, and writing activities to reinforce their understanding and fluency.
